Watts Contemporary Gallery
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Watts Gallery Team Triathlon. We have been raising money to help save the Watts Studios, the only remaining 19th-century artists' studio with its collection still intact and the only remaining house and studio designed by Sir Ernest George, the great Arts & Crafts architect. Thanks to your support we have managed to exceed our target of £10,000 and donations are still coming in.
The Triathlon challenge consisted of three challenges that Watts Gallery staff and volunteers have participated in during the past three months:
- Challenge 1: Swim the Solent, 27 September
- Challenge 2: 40km Cycletta Surrey, 12 October
- Challenge 3: 11.7km Hog's Back Road Race, 7 December
The team has faced not only the challenge of the activities themselves, but also battled through rain, crossed one of the busiest stretches of water in the world and overcame chilly winter winds to complete the triathlon. Knowing that they had the support of so many people served as inspiration to keep going and made the tasks achievable.
When we began the challenge, Watts Gallery still had £680,000 left to raise for the Save the Studios project; now we are pleased to announce that we have only £600,000 to go. Every donation is important in counting down to the final target and so thank you for your generosity and support. It really does make such a difference.
If you would still like to make a donation, please click here, text 'WATT14' followed by the amount you wish to give to 70070, or send a cheque payable to 'Watts Gallery' marked for the attention of Sarah Mitchell to Watts Gallery. Your donation will help save this important building for the benefit of the nation. Thank you.
