Pottery workshop at the Great Studio
Rosie and Georgie who take part in the Big Issues project led a skills sharing session at Watts’s Great studio today, as part of their Bronze Arts Awards qualification. Myself along with some staff from Surrey Youth Justice Service were asked to be “students” and I was impressed by the very good instructions and teaching we received on making a terracotta tile. It suddenly dawned on my whilst I was engrossed in making my tile that this was probably the first pottery workshop in the room we were in since Mary Watts led her pottery classes at the Great Studio for Compton residents in the late 1800’s.
