A display board has been put up at Guildford Cathedral about the sculpture project held by Watts Gallery at HMP Send in 2012.

The display is to help celebrate Prisons Week and tells the story of the creation of a permanent sculpture at HMP Send for the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the prison. The sculpture was created by a group of women inmates who call themselves the Sisters in Art.

‘We feel very privileged and grateful; to have been able to represent the women ‘doing time’ with a permanent sculpture that can reflect the thoughts and feelings of those that pass through, along with all the positive achievements gained whilst at Send.’ - Sisters in Art

The project was led by the Artist in Residence Sandy Curry; a position that is generously supported by the Michael Varah Memorial Fund. Watts Gallery has been working with HMP Send since 2008 as a part of the Big Issues Project. Find out more about the Big Issues Project.
