Thank you to all those who supported the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2014
Thank you to everyone who supported the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2014. With your help Watts Gallery was able to raise a staggering £45,837 including gift aid which will support our ‘Art for All’ learning programme and make a real difference to the lives of some of the most disadvantaged people in our community this Christmas.
The three day challenge, which ran from 4-6 December is organised by the Big Give and matched through generous donations by Hazelhurst Trust and the Lakehouse Charitable Foundation. This meant that every donation was worth twice as much to Watts Gallery Trust and therefore doubly important!
The Challenge culminated in a Big Give Breakfast, supported by Project Five, and one-day-only Big Issues Christmas Exhibition in the Gallery, which was attended by supporters of the Big Issues project. Matthew Bowcock CBE and Sally Varah DL gave impassioned speeches about the life changing effects the project has for the participants, as well as their families, and the lasting impact the results have on society. For each young person that Watts Gallery helps to prevent entering the prison system, we save the state an average £37,648.
Through the power of art Watts Gallery is able to support families, socially excluded groups and disadvantaged people; providing hope, inspiration and practical skills by nurturing artistic talent and providing a sense of accomplishment. Artwork created by those participating in the Big Issues project will be displayed in the Big Issues Exhibition and is available to buy, with all the proceeds being given to the artist. The Big Issues 2014 Exhibition will run from 2 – 20 February 2014 at Watts Gallery and 23 February – 7 March at Gallery Different, Percy Street London.
