Winsor and Newton Prize Awarded
Laura Burke a graduate of the University of Creative Arts, Farnham, has been selected as the winner of the prestigous Watts Gallery, Winsor and Newton Painting Prize.
Nicholas Tromans, Curator of Watts Gallery commented; 'Laura's work shows how crucial paint and painting remain for serious young artists today. Her pictures have a spontaneous excitement about them, but they also carry echoes of earlier periods when artists really expressed themselves with their paints. The prize is given as a way for the Gallery to show its commitment in supporting the development of contemporary artists, which was the vision of G.F. Watts and his wife Mary Seton Watts.'
Laura is the ninth artist to win this prize which has been generously supported by Winsor and Newton since its launch in 2004.
