"Watts Gallery has a magical atmosphere - as a steward in the Gallery I feel part of the Victorian art world and learn more every week"

We are true to the Wattses original ethos of 'Art for All' so whether you are looking to meet like minded people, acquire new skills, or learn more about the Gallery, we are keen to welcome you to the team. We are currently lucky enough to have a community of almost 300 people who volunteer with us, but we are always looking to welcome more.

Our greatest need is for more Gallery stewards, who provide a warm welcome to all our visitors, signing up for two-hour shifts on a flexible basis.

Once you have joined the team there are lots of opportunities for furthering your involvement – becoming a guide, helping with evening events, cultivating the gardens and supporting school visits and family events.

Benefits of becoming a volunteer include:

  • Full induction and free training on the Collection and exhibitions
  • Free entry to the Gallery for you and a guest at any time
  • Quarterly volunteer forums
  • Social events
  • 10% Discount in the Shop and Tea Shop

Winners of the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service 2012, the MBE for volunteer groups, recognising outstanding contributions by groups of volunteers.

If you are interested becoming a volunteer please contact the Visitor Services Manager on 01483 813 580 or email

Gallery Stewards

Stewards make all the difference to every visitor's day at Watts Gallery – Artists Village. By giving a warm welcome, talking with visitors and introducing the guides, trails and activities available, stewards help visitors to learn about and enjoy the story of G F and Mary Watts and get the most from their visit. A day at the Artists' Village is not just about what you see but the people you connect with and the story they help you to discover, that's what makes our community of stewards so important. If you like interacting with like-minded people, have a passion for the arts and a few hours to spare we'd love to hear from you.

Donate to the Limnerslease Project

Can you help us to save, conserve and transform the home of G F and Mary Watts? The acquisition of Limnerslease would be the final milestone in the creation of an ‘Artists’ Village’, alongside the other historic Arts & Crafts buildings including Watts Gallery, the Watts Cemetery Chapel and the Pottery buildings.
