What our Volunteers Say

'I've been a volunteer here for a couple of years, first stewarding then being drawn into the gardening by a friend from choir. As a steward one ends up helping people to explore the displays, yet often learning from them along the way. In the same way working with the gardens here becomes about education, understanding more, being taught by the plants themselves, by the other gardeners, by necessity. That's the thing about the gallery and grounds; there's always something more to find.' Ben Thomas, Steward and Garden Volunteer\

'There's something different every time! 'Colin Walkinshaw, Steward and Visitor Centre Volunteer

'There is a team spirit amongst the volunteer and staff. Also I am motivated through the learning experience – every time there is new information learned and shared.' Louise Jones, Steward and Tour Guide

Gallery Stewards
Stewards make all the difference to every visitor's day at Watts Gallery – Artists Village. By giving a warm welcome, talking with visitors and introducing the guides, trails and activities available, stewards help visitors to learn about and enjoy the story of G F and Mary Watts and get the most from their visit. A day at the Artists' Village is not just about what you see but the people you connect with and the story they help you to discover, that's what makes our community of stewards so important.

Restore the gardens at Limnerslease to their former glory

Working with local craftsmen, commission an Arts & Crafts inspired bench or a replica terracotta pot based on the designs of Mary Watts. Benches and pots offer a lasting tribute to a loved one and will be used to re-create the gardens at Limnerslease, the sanctuary so enjoyed by G F Watts and Mary Watts.
