The Big Give

Make a pledge today to the Art for All programme and your donation could be doubled!

Friday 4 & Saturday 5 December

From 12 Noon

Take part in Watts Gallery Trust's The Big Give Challenge this Christmas. By donating online on 4 & 5 December your donation could be worth double to Watts Gallery Trust. Please make a difference by donating to ensure this vital programme continues for another year. Our aim is to raise £25,000 in support of the Art for All learning programme at Watts Gallery – Artists' Village. The money raised will be match-funded meaning the campaign could be worth a total of £50,000 to Watts Gallery Trust.

Art for All learning programme uses creativity and art to promote greater social cohesion and tackle issues of deprivation and social exclusion which are hidden by the general affluence in Surrey. The project targets those most in need, including prisoners, young offenders, the homeless, excluded pupils and people with mental illness who have little access to art.

Watts Gallery Trust's far-reaching Art for All programme is essential in providing access to the arts for disadvantaged and socially excluded people from both the local area and further afield. Art for All focuses on five key areas:

  • The Big Issues - an outreach project working with young people at risk, homeless, single parents, prisoners and individuals with mental illness. Young people work towards their Bronze Arts Award (the equivalent of a GCSE).
  • Schools - a range of free and subsidised activities for schools, as gaining access to the arts from an early age is shown to have a positive long-term impact.
  • Families - activities encouraging parents to interact with their children and learn together, improving communication and encouraging strong relationships between parents and children.
  • Young People - the vibrant programme encourages them to take ownership of the Artists' Village, instilling a sense of pride as well as teaching new artistic and life skills.
  • Adult Learners - the programme prevents social isolation and demonstrates that you are never too old to learn a new skill.

"It was so different from anything I had done before. It was accessible for people with little skill like me and also for accomplished artists."
Adult Learner
"The workshop programme led by Mary Branson has opened up my world. Art has become a way to express the depth of my feelings and provides a welcome escape from the rigidity of prison life."
