Participants will visit the Watts collection and look at how Watts’s paintings have inspired literary work. Recording experience and observation you will explore different techniques to stimulate ideas.

Creating Characters

Using images from the collection and the Watts Archive as inspiration you will create fictional characters, focusing on particular paintings or portraits. You will develop techniques to describe real and fictional characters in writing, and develop stories from character sketches.

Telling Stories
Saturday 23 March 2013
10.45am - 4pm
Looking at the stories that inspired Watts you will analyse structure and plot also referring to images from Postman’s Park, as stimulus for story ideas on how real life stories can be fictionalised, and ‘writing what you know’.

Morning: 10.45 – 12.30
10.45am - Meet at The Great Studio. Introduction by Katherine Clements. Tea and coffee will be available.
11.45 Watts Gallery - Brief talk from Curatorial staff – How Watts has inspired Literary work and vice versa Collection visit for inspiration and discussion.
Lunch:12.30 – 1.15– Great Studio kitchen
Please bring a packed lunch.
Tea and Coffee will be available
Afternoon: 1.15-4pm-Ice breaker writing exercises, generating ideas and other writing exercises.
