A Dedication: To Beauty and Innocence
10 January - 18 March 2012
Showcase Gallery
This exhibition will showcase G.F. Watts’s painting A Dedication which he bestowed ‘To all those who love the beautiful and mourn over the senseless and cruel destruction of bird life and beauty’. Watts completed this painting to show his support of the campaigns against the bird-wearing fashion by a number of groups and individuals who united to form the Society for the Protection of Birds in 1891.
The painting’s historical links will be explored alongside the power of the image with its acute symmetrical layout and inherent symbols; the angel, altar, satyr-like figure and setting sun.
A Dedication has been adopted by HK Associates (UK) Limited. A Development and Cultural Planning Consultancy - Roger & Heather Kerswell.
