Volunteering

There are many different volunteering opportunities at Watts Gallery, including administrative jobs in the office, helping with the collection, marketing, assisting with school visits and outreach work.

Our greatest need, however, is for more stewards. During the Restoration period we have an Information Point and Shop which is manned by stewards who welcome visitors and sell shop items. When the Gallery re-opens in summer 2010 the role of the steward will also include sitting in different areas of the gallery to make sure the visitors do not damage the paintings at all. Most of the stewards have been trained on the till but this is in no way compulsory.

We have a great number of volunteers already- and they really are crucial to the gallery’s success. We have meetings every few months as well as drinks parties for special occasions- so it is not all work!

One of our volunteers said: "The Watts Gallery has a magical atmosphere - it is unique in its rural setting.  As a steward in the gallery I feel part of the Victorian art world and learn more every week”.
