Family WorkshopFree drop-in workshop for children aged 5-10 years old with their parents or carers. Part of the Watts Gallery Hope Wall community art project.

Create and illustrate your own story using drawing
and collage materials. Booking not required. Parents and carers must stay with their children during the workshop.

Creative Fun with Clay

Inspired by the Compton Pottery Nursery Rhyme Plaques, we will make a clay plaque illustrating your favourite nursery rhyme or story.  Then learn how to make a simple pot, which you could also decorate with a story theme.   The plaque and the pot will be made in air-drying clay, which you can paint at home.

Create a Christmas Angel

Inspired by the angels on the ceiling of the Watts Chapel, you will be able to make a Christmas Angel using wire and tissue paper.   Your angel sculpture could be used as a table decoration or put on to your Christmas tree.

Big Draw Workshops

28, 29, 30 October 2008
Guildford Cathedral

The Cathedral will be open for people of all ages to come and have a go at drawing.   This will be a collaborative piece of work, organised by Sandy Curry, the Watts Gallery Fenton Arts Trust Artist in Residence 2006-7, and the finished work will be on display in the cathedral at the end of the event.  No experience necessary!  There will also be worksheets and colouring sheets available for children of all ages and tours round the cathedral. 

 

Make a Panoramic Landscape Painting

We will learn about colour mixing, creating textures, seasons and space by looking at the landscape paintings of G F Watts and the surrounding Compton countryside, you will then be inspired to make your very own imaginary panoramic landscape in paint.

Make up your own modern day story inspired by paintings in the collection and turn it into a book which will include a photo of yourself to make your story even more personal.  Children will start the workshop by looking at selected paintings, preparing their story and using paint and craft materials to create their hand made book.

Celebrated children’s author and illustrator, Val Biro, has confirmed that he will be bringing his famous 1926 Austin Clifton Heavy, Gumdrop, to Watts Gallery’s Open Day.   The free event, which promises non-stop entertainment will be the final Open Day to be held at Watts Gallery before the Gallery embarks on the restoration project.
