A school visit and workshop to Watts Gallery

Schools Learning at Watts Gallery

Watts Gallery, set in Compton is a Grade II* listed building, which houses the studio collection of the Victorian artist George Frederic Watts (1817-1904). His second wife Mary Seton Watts set up the Compton Pottery and trained local people in pottery to build the Watts Chapel, which is situated near to the Gallery on Down Lane.

The main Gallery is closed during the restoration until 2010, we welcome schools and colleges to book a visit to the Chapel and a short walking tour of the Gallery site. In addition, the new outreach programme for schools called A Gallery Without Walls offers sessions at your school or college. The outreach sessions bring the paintings and sculpture of G. F. Watts to life and could be the basis for an art or cross curricular project based around G. F. Watts, Mary Watts and the Watts Chapel. The themes offered for each key stage can be combined and we can also tailor make sessions to fit in with your curriculum requirements.

The Head of Learning welcomes enquiries from teachers about booking visits and the types of sessions we offer and can be contacted on 01483 813591 or email learning@wattsgallery.org.uk

Why not stay in touch and join e-bulletin for teachers, email your name and school details to learning@wattsgallery.org.uk
