‘Lovely event that we could all join in with as a family’

On Saturday 11th October Watts Gallery threw open the door to a day of drawing activities for the Big Draw.

The Big Draw is an international campaign to get people drawing. Every year museums, galleries and cultural institutions hold a day of free drawing activities for families. In 2013 Watts Gallery hosted the launch for the Big Draw in Guildford. Read more.

In a bid to help Save Watts Studios on 27 September, Director of Watts Gallery, Perdita Hunt, swam the Solent, one of the busiest stretches of water in the world, and raised over £7,000. Inspired by her efforts, Watts Gallery staff members have decided to form their own 'Team Physical Energy' and expand the challenge to a triathlon series. Please support the Watts Gallery ‘Team Physical Energy’ as they attempt a Triathlon Series of events raising money to save the Watts Studios. Read more.

2nd October 2014

Watts Gallery opened their exhibition on the life and work of G F Watt’s first wife, Ellen Terry in June 2014. Terry was at the centre of culture during the Victorian era as an actress and as a model for painters and photographers. This exhibition combines the story of her marriage with the story of her career across her entire life time. It presents her both on and off the stage through a range of different art forms including paintings, prints, audio and film. Read more.

On Saturday 27 September two hours after setting off from Gilkicker Point Perdita Hunt and team, arrived on Ryde Sand and the Solent Swim to save the Watts Studios was successfully achieved. Read more.

25th September 2014

Preparing for the autumn brings final planning for the next season of exhibitions and events for November to February. We shall be opening the Russian Fairy Tale exhibition on Tuesday 18 November and there are a number of themed Russian events! Read more.

Perdita Hunt, Director of Watts Gallery, is swimming the Solent, one of the busiest stretches of water in the world, on Saturday 27 September to raise money for saving the Watts Studios, the only remaining 19th century artist’s studio with its collection still intact and the only remaining house and studio designed by Sir Ernest George, the great Arts & Crafts architect. Later this month the exhibition Sculpture Victorious: Art in an Age of Invention, 1837-1901, opens at Yale Center for British Art in the US and will include Mary Watts’s commemorative bronze relief triptych.
