Hope 2: New toilets and an expanded Tea Shop at Watts Gallery, Winter 2012/13
Through careful management of our resources and effective budgeting we managed to complete the major part of the Hope Restoration project under budget. The Heritage Lottery Fund has kindly given us permission to allocate the unspent contingencies to address the urgent need for better toilets and a larger Tea Shop with room to cater for visitors on Group Tours. It has long been quoted that the two things visitors always remember are the toilets and café and we are aiming to ensure our facilities and visitor experience are of the highest quality and meet the standards set by the Gallery restoration.
Therefore, this winter, we will be embarking on further building work to greatly improve facilities for visitors to the Watts Gallery Estate. The work will commence at the on 12th November and will be finished in Spring 2013. As part of this work we will also be addressing the urgent need to repair and restore the roof of the old Pottery building, housing KD Fine Art, the Tea Shop, Compton Complementary Health Centre and the Watts Gallery Visitor Centre and Shop.
The project will result in a new toilet block (no more portaloos!), a larger Tea Shop, a dedicated space for Group dining and a restored Pottery Building roof fit to weather the next 100 years.
There will be scaffolding around the Tea Shop and Pottery Building during part of the project but the Shop, Tea Shop, KD Fine Art and the Compton Complementary Health Centre will be open for business as usual. We are aiming to keep disruption to a minimum and we thank all our visitors for your patience and support.
