Picturing the Studio: Photographs from the Rob Dickins Collection
4 – 21 November 2013
Lewis Elton Gallery, University of Surrey
Using The Rob Dickins Collection from the Watts Gallery photographic archive, the exhibition will explore the enduring fascination with the studios of artists and how they were shown through the growing medium of photography in the nineteenth century.
It will show how ‘celebrity’ artists at the time, including Watts, Leighton and Millais chose to present themselves and their art to the outside world through the highly collectable carte-devisite. It is a wonderful chance to peek behind the scenes of the Victorian Artist.
