Watts Gallery Christmas Cards

This card is based on an original Victorian design celebrating the life and poetry of Alfred Lord Tennyson. Tennyson and the artist George Frederic Watts were great friends. Tennyson’s home on the Isle of Wight, Farringford, has recently been restored and is available for private bookings and self-catering holidays. Watts Gallery, in Compton, Surrey, the purpose-built Arts & Crafts period Gallery designed for the artist is also the subject of a major restoration.

The sale of these cards will benefit Watts Gallery, a national Gallery in the heart of a village, housing a collection of international significance and promoting Watts’s own ethos of art for all.

This Christmas card depicts Physical Energy by G. F. Watts in Kensington Gardens, painted by Terry McKivragan whose studio is in the old potteries building at Watts Gallery.

Terry says “As you walk through the gardens, you see up ahead of you, strategically placed at the junction of five pathways, this dramatic sculpture. One cannot fail to be impressed by the contrast of this portrayal of such dynamic equestrian energy in such a tranquil setting.”
