Its displays offer unparalleled resources to support learning about the history of mental healthcare and treatment. The Museum also features artworks by other artists and patients of note including Jonathan Martin and Caius Gabriel Cibber, whose striking sculptures Raving and Melancholy Madness once greeted visitors to the site on a plinth outside the hospital. The visit will also include an opportunity to wander the temporary exhibition The Maudsley at War: The Story of the Hospital during the Great War on what will be its final day. The exhibition looks into the thousands of soldiers who were affected by shell shock and other war neuroses and the pioneering treatment that was used at the hospital.
