Discover more about the Collection in our weekly ten minute expert talks. Each week introduces a different work of art in the Gallery.
This week Rhian Addison, Curatorial Assistant, talks about The Portrait of Lilly Langtry (1880). Lillie Langtry, also known as the Jersey Lillie, was one of the most famous actresses of the Victorian stage. This picture talk will explore how her portrait came to be part of the Watts Gallery collection and why it plays a key part in discussing Watts's interest in women's fashion. The discussion will delve into the artistic circles in which she moved and her role as a model in Victorian art.
