Today, for the first time ever, our historic galleries are available for you to enjoy in augmented reality thanks to award winning app SMARTIFY.
The Smartify app, which won the UN World Summit Award for Culture and Tourism last year, is free to download and helps make meaningful connections with art. Using advanced image recognition technology, Smartify allows you to access supporting media created by our curatorial team through your smartphone, including rarely seen images from their archives, specially created audio interviews, curatorial research and the inspirational stories behind works of art across the historic site.
Today is the start of an 8 week trial, enabled by the incredible team at the University of Surrey, in a project designed to transform the development and implementation of AR technology across the arts industry.
Director, Alistair Burtenshaw
“I am thrilled that Watts Gallery – Artists' Village has this unique opportunity to work with Smartify and the University of Surrey to bring cutting edge digital technology to our historic gallery spaces for the first time. The app is a leader in sharing rich interpretation with museum and gallery visitors and will be an added layer of information to enhance our visitor's experience of the Artists' Village."
