Biography

Julie King BA (Hons) Cert Ed CBM 07 is based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Trained as a textile designer she now specialises in watercolour flower and garden painting and shares her skill and passion in classes she runs in the surrounding area and further afield to include art societies, private groups, gardens and cruise liners.

Julie is a contributor to Leisure Painter magazine and has had her third book, Take Three Colours, Watercolour Flowers published by Search Press. Recent promotion included a demonstration day at the Mall Galleries London.

About my work

Watercolour is my favoured medium due to its many qualities. I enjoy its immediacy, spontaneity and the thrill of the colours merging together creating at times unpredictable results. Whilst areas can be painted loosely wet in to wet, with no edges other areas can be more controlled and detailed.

I love the transparency of the medium and the luminosity, which lends itself beautifully to evoking the freshness of flowers and gardens.

Julie King at Watts Gallery - Artists' Village

On Friday 26 January, Julie will be leading a Water Colour Painting workshop, where participants can learn traditional watercolour painting techniques. Begin the workshop with technical exercises before developing your own style inspired by photographs of the wintery Watts gardens and buildings or Allingham's work in a Curator-led talk. Painters of all abilities welcome.
