Curator Picture Talks - For he had Great Possessions

Free with admission

Watts produced this painting (1894), taking the title 'For he had Great Possessions' from a Biblical story of a rich man who went to Christ to become a disciple. This work was one of a group in which Watts expressed his hostility toward greed, therefore not only portraying a psychologically disturbed man, yet also capturing the viewer's attention with the rich fabric of his clothes.
