See how contemporary makers are working with Watts Gallery - Artists' Village.
As returning artists in residence at Watts Gallery - Artists' Village, Charlie and Anna will be revisiting the Limnerslease woodland, making collaborative mixed-media responses to the landscape focussing on colour, layered drawings and installation.
The artists will be immersing themselves in the resonating history of the local Women's Suffrage Movement 100 years ago. In particular, their research will focus on the creative connections between two highly successful women from the 19th century: Mary Watts and Gertrude Jekyll; feeding their interest in Feminism and Nature into a contemporary context.
Coinciding with the Mary Watts Pioneering Suffragist exhibition, the artists integrate their collaborative practice with historical contexts. Charlie and Anna are interested in the history of forgotten women, overlooked voices being re-empowered through art.
Through combined mediums including drawing, prints, video and sound work – the entanglement of the landscape becomes performing subject to the artists, whose work will be activated through intervention and installation.
