Join us for a Patron's trip to Christie's for an afternoon tea and a tour of The Isabel Goldsmith Collection: Selected Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist Art with Isabel Goldsmith.
Spanning over 40 years of collecting, Isabel’s beautiful collection contains important examples of Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist Art from both the British and European schools. Comprising 87 artworks, the collection explores the themes of sleep, dreams, the soul and the afterlife, spiritualism, beauty, literary and classical subjects.
Highlights include paintings by George Frederic Watts, Sidney Henry Meteyard, Evelyn De Morgan and Alfred Stevens, alongside works on paper by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, John Roddam Spencer-Stanhope, Henry Ryland, Simeon Solomon, Henry John Stock, Lucien Levy-Dhurmer and Fernand Khnopff.
Isabel is kindly donating the proceeds of the sale of The Open Door by George Frederic Watts to Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village.
The tour will be given by Isabel and Peter Brown, Senior Director and International Specialist, Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite and British Impressionist at Christie’s. This will be followed by an informal behind the scenes tour with Specialist in Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite and British Art and Auctioneer, Sarah Reynolds.
This event is open to Exhibition Circle, Patrons and Adopt a Watts members and costs £15 which will cover administrative costs to Watts Gallery. We would like to thank Christie’s for very kindly providing this guided tour and the afternoon tea.
