About Des Oliver and The Atchison Quartet: What Does it Mean to be a Black Composer?

Friday 24 February

7.00pm – 9.15pm

Don't miss this special evening of live music, film and discussion set in the atmospheric Historic Galleries.

Acclaimed contemporary composer and film maker, Des Oliver will share a screening of excerpts from his landmark documentary series, Identity and the Anxiety of Influence. Discover themes of influence, heritage, identity and representation, as Oliver reflects on his own experiences, and those of other Black British-based composers. A discussion with Oliver and Watts Gallery’s Faces of Fame curator Dr Emily Burns will follow.

To conclude, enjoy a live performance of Oliver’s celebrated musical composition, The Diasporic Quartets, alongside works by Philip Herbert, Tunde Jegede and Dominque Le Gendre, performed by the leading ensemble The Atchison Quartet.
