About Exploring Senses: meet the artists

Saturday 6 September 2025

2 - 4pm

Head to Watts Contemporary Gallery for the opportunity to meet four members of the Society of Graphic Fine Art, currently exhibiting in the Exploring Senses exhibition. Watch demonstrations

Patricia Rozental

Patricia loves to paint commonplace - often old and well-worn - objects which bear the marks of a life well used. Using watercolour, she attempts to elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary. Patricia will bring along examples of her work together with a selection of inspirational items, some materials and tools, and is looking forward to discussing aspects of her practice.

Amanda Bates

Amanda will be demonstrating some of the techniques that she has developed using pen, ink and scraper tool on kaolin-coated board. It's important to understand the properties of the materials to get the optimum result, and she will happily explain them. She will be working solely in black ink in the gallery (because the way she uses coloured inks is, she says, messy and there is more stuff to carry around), so the emphasis will be on line and texture.

Margaret Eggleton

Margaret is a highly respected plein-air artist who, for the demonstration, will be working from a photograph on her iPad. She will also bring some examples of a similar subject and will be drawing with sepia Derivan Liquid Graphite using a bamboo pen on HP watercolour paper dry mounted on board.

Charles Burns

Charles – a silhouettist - will be in the gallery to continue work on the “Rakugo” series of paper cuttings, two of which are on show, and to explain the thinking behind them. He will be available to talk about his work with silhouettes and paper cutting, as well as to demonstrate his unique method of working with scissors.
