About Exploring Senses: meet the artists

Saturday 6 September 2025

2 - 4pm

Head to Watts Contemporary Gallery for the opportunity to meet four members of the Society of Graphic Fine Art, currently exhibiting in the Exploring Senses exhibition. Watch demonstrations

Patricia Rozental

Patricia loves to paint common place, often old well-worn objects which bear the marks of a life well used. Using watercolour, she attempts to elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary…Patricia will bring along examples of her work together with a selection of inspirational items, some materials and tools, and is looking forward to discussing aspects of her practice.

Amanda Bates

Amanda will be demonstrating some of the techniques that she has developed using pen, ink and scraper tool on kaolin-coated board. It's important to understand the properties of the materials to get the optimum result, and she will happily explain them. She will be working solely in black ink in the gallery (because the way I use coloured inks is messy and there is more stuff to carry around), so the emphasis will be on line and texture.

Maz Jackson

To complement her egg tempera paintings Maz often enjoys making editions of wood engravings. She will be demonstrating this beautiful technique with handcrafted tools by engraving into boxwood and printing onto archival paper without a press. Maz welcomes your questions and will have examples of her print blocks, prints and sketches to enhance your interest.

Louisa Crispin

Louisa Crispin will be sharing her tools and techniques from 15 years experience of drawing and recording insects and plants. This is a drop in session guided by the audience, a quiet conversation where you can relax, ask questions, and share your own experiences with fellow insect enthusiasts, perfect for anyone curious about the tiny wonders around us. Learn hints and tips on how to observe these fascinating creatures up close and capture their beauty through drawing.
