Step behind the scenes at Watts Gallery and discover treasures rarely seen by the public
Join Watts Gallery’s Curatorial Advisor and textile enthusiast, Hilary Underwood. We will spend an hour exploring the history and technique of the Gallery’s little Morris and company’s woven tapestry also that of one of Morris’s hand-made Hammersmith rugs which has been lent to the Gallery to coincide with our exhibition ‘The Art of Wallpaper: Morris & Co.’ The tapestry was commissioned by Constantine Alexander Ionides, from the Greek merchant family of which Watts painted five generations.
The session offers a unique opportunity to study the work, which we display only rarely for conservation reasons. The October and November sessions will be duplicates to allow you to examine the textiles closely in a small group.
