Create beautiful gilded decorations inspired by Victorian Christmas traditions, and discover the art of working with delicate gold leaf and natural treasures.
Using materials such as walnut shells, pine cones, acorns and other foraged treasures, you’ll learn how to transform nature’s little wonders into elegant decorations for your Christmas tree.
In the Victorian era, walnut shells were sometimes crafted into delicate Christmas ornaments, with a special wish or message tucked inside. You’ll create your own treasured keepsake, adding a heartfelt message or personal wish using hand calligraphy or a vintage typewriter.
Finish your creations with beautiful ribbons, a touch of sparkle and decorative finishes, leaving you with unique ornaments to treasure, gift or hang on your tree for years to come.
Please note: This workshop involves working with natural materials, including walnuts and other nuts, and is not suitable for anyone with a nut allergy.
Meet the Maker
Sally Minns is a London-based artist working primarily in painting, alongside sculpture and installation. She studied portraiture and figurative painting at The Heatherley School of Fine Art, having been awarded a painting scholarship and graduated in 2022. As a full-time practicing artist, qualified teacher and experienced workshop leader, Sally founded The Other Art Room, with the ethos that art is for all, teaching beginners through to established artists, the fundamentals of drawing, painting and sketchbook practice. Sally’s own work draws on metamorphosised bodily forms to explore ecology, care and our interconnectedness with nature, creating the images with her fingertips directly on the painting surface, often blurring the boundaries between human and environment, human and animal and human and plant.
