This exhibition features over 40 original cartoons by the award-winning cartoonist for The Times, Peter Brookes. This remarkable collection of works in ink and watercolour covers the major political events and figures from the turbulent last 18 months – from war in Ukraine and the Middle East, to the churn of British politics and, of course, the cult of Trump.
The fire in Peter Brookes remains undimmed, and this exhibition demonstrates this country’s greatest political cartoonist at the peak of his powers.
Peter Brookes (b.1943) has been political cartoonist for The Times since 1992. After training as an RAF pilot he attended, and taught at, the Central School of Art in London. He was then a Visiting Lecturer at the Royal College of Art for 10 years. He joined The Times as a political cartoonist and illustrator in 1982 and became its full-time political cartoonist a decade later. He was a cover artist for TheSpectator from 1986 until 1998 and has also contributed to the New Statesman, The Sunday Times, Penguin books and The Times Literary Supplement. Among his many honours, he has won the British Press Awards cartoonist of the year eight times, most recently in 2017. The same year he was appointed CBE for services to the media.
Peter Brookes is exclusively represented by Chris Beetles Gallery, St James’s London
