Blue and green bowl with yellow inside decorated with a red and green dragon on the outside

Compton Potters' Arts Guild Dragon Bowl, 1936

Watts Gallery Trust

Mary Seton Watts (1849-1938) founded the Compton Potters' Arts Guild and the Arts & Crafts Guild in Compton, where she created employment for impoverished people through the preservation and teaching of rural handicrafts. This Compton Pottery piece features three embossed dragon designs. Dragon Bowl was wheel thrown then varnished rather than glazed. This work continues to inspire children to create imaginative artworks in their workshops at the Clore Learning Studio.

This bowl is on display in the Mary Watts Gallery at Watts Studios in Limnerslease.
