Portrait of a bearded greying white man

George Frederic Watts, George Andrews, 1898, oil on canvas

Watts Gallery Trust

George Andrews was a long-time friend of George and Mary Watts. He was a former London police officer and was employed as Estate Steward at Limnerslease, George and Mary's home.

George Andrews's work on the estate extended beyond the care of the land and house. He worked as an assistant to both George and Mary in their artistic endeavours. This included stretching canvases, preparing gesso mixtures and cutting terracotta. He was also tasked with taking many of the photographs of the estate and artworks.
