News Story

In the summer term we welcomed two Work Experience students to Watts Gallery Artists’-Village to complete a week’s long placement with us.

The two students spent their week based in the Learning team, with shadow opportunities and tasks from other departments including the Collections and Exhibitions team, Operations, Marketing and the Trading team.

The week I spent alongside the staff at Watts Gallery was perfect! The staff were wonderful and it was just the right balance of learning and work, and fun.

As a student who was feeling a little lost on the next steps for my career path, it could not have been more useful. Not only did I get to explore a range of areas in a workplace, I also was able to speak to people who had been in the same position as me. The time I spent with the Finance team opened my eyes to the range of routes I could take to reach my career goals and has helped me explore new paths.

Being in a genuine workplace for a week showed me how real companies work and helped me embrace adaptability, especially with plan changes surrounding the hot weather. Everybody was so lovely and welcoming, and the learning team was incredible in organising my week to provide such a diverse selection of activities! I could not recommend the gallery enough, not only for work experience but also as a space to visit; I am sure none of my classmates had such a beautiful setting for their work experience!

My thanks once again to everyone who played a part in my week.
