Courtney Jinsook Bae (b. 1986) is a Korean-American artist, born in Australia and now based in London. Working primarily in oil, Bae creates raw and expressive portraits, figurative works and landscapes. Her practice explores themes of identity, resilience, trauma and human connection, using painting as a way to reflect on cultural movement and the human experience.
Bae paints with fluid strokes, contrasted against whimsical marksmanship. Her artistic practice is defined by a balance between reality and an internal dialogue which is linked to visceral experiences and emotions.
A graduate of Southern New Hampshire University, where she studied Graphic Design, Bae gained national recognition in the UK in 2025 as a semi-finalist on Sky Arts’ Portrait Artist of the Year.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions at Bermondsey Project Space, London, and Sideshow Gallery, Brooklyn, and has featured at Saatchi Gallery, The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and Denise Bibro Fine Art, New York.
