Join us every Wednesday this summer for fabulous, fun, and creative workshops designed for the whole family! Each week features a brand-new theme to spark your imagination—come along to one or join us for them all.
Get hands-on with making, creating, and exploring your artistic side together. Whether you're painting, building, or crafting, there’s something exciting for everyone.
Fun for all ages – make memories and masterpieces together!
These are family workshops, and everyone taking part in the activity—adults and children—will need their own ticket. If you are not taking part and just watching, you do not have to purchase a ticket.
As a general guide, activities are suitable for children aged 5 and over. However, if you feel your younger child would enjoy the session with your support, you're very welcome to join in too!
Adults will need to stay with their children in The Make Space at all times, to supervise, create and learn together.
23 July - Scented potion painting
Inspired by our current exhibition Scented Visions: Smell in Art 1850 – 1915, make your own beautiful paper potion bottles. Decorate your creation with scented potion paints, blended and mixed from natural materials. Become a master mixer and discover the different colours and scents you can create.
30 July - Acrylic art and fancy frames
In this Make Space, learn to paint just like G F Watts, using bold acrylic paints. We will look at different painterly techniques, how to use different brushes, layering and experimenting with colour and texture. To finish, we will be making museum-worthy golden frames to complete our masterpieces!
6 August - Paper patterns and puzzle purses
Create your own beautiful folded origami or learn how to create a Victorian puzzle purse, inspired by Mary’s intricate designs and decorative albums. Illustrate your piece with unique patterns and colours to make it truly one of a kind!
13 August - Magical mermaid worlds – rainbow waters and misty dreams
Inspired by Evelyn De Morgan’s enchanting painting Daughters of the Mist, which draws on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid, children are invited to paint their own magical scenes. Explore iridescent rainbow colours and shimmering watercolours to bring your worlds to life!
20 August - Nature spray art
In this messy and hands-on workshop, learn the techniques to create splashy, colourful, and fun artworks inspired by the landscape around Watts Gallery.
27 August - Move it! Make it! Paper characters
Create your own character paper cuts and add moving or pop-up elements to bring them to life. Explore fun techniques to make your characters stand out and bring their stories to life.
We attended the make space and absolutely loved it. The staff were so helpful and friendly and we really enjoyed making our clay tiles. - Family feedback
