About Summer Family Days

Tuesday 6, 13 and 20 August 2024
10.30am - 4pm

Family Art Adventure at Watts Gallery

Join us for a Summer Family Day, inspired by Japanese creative practices celebrated in our current exhibitions Edo Pop: Japanese Prints 1825 - 1895 and Hanga Ten at Watts: Japanese printing today.

Programme

Two-toned printing
Clore Learning Studio

Using simple methods of relief printing, create a high-quality, two-toned print inspired by visuals of Japanese landscapes and culture.

Paper flowers

Foyle Studio

Japan’s iconic flower, sakura (cherry blossoms) feature in many of the prints in Edo Pop exhibition. Pop into the Foyle Studio to create crepe paper flowers.

Wall hangings

Limnerslease woodlands

Inspired by Hiroko Imada’s Sakura saku installation in the Sculpture Gallery, create a wall hanging using printing, collage and painting techniques.

Exhibition exploring

Edo Pop and Hanga Ten exhibitions

Make sure to visit both the Edo Pop and Hanga Ten exhibitions, with extra activities in place to facilitate closer looking, family conversations, and stirring up inspiration!

Drop in and draw

Historic Galleries

Drop in and draw in the Historic Galleries, with tips and tricks to guide you. Capture a detail in one of G F Watts’s paintings, or perhaps you’ll sketch a portrait of a visitor.

A wonderful day, beautifully organised and full of activities for the children to enjoy. The children enjoyed every moment and were immersed in all the activities. Everything was so well thought through and ready-prepared—one of the best art-based activity days we have experienced.
